Backstage: Naeem Khan Fall Winter 2014

Let's talk about red lips! An exciting and thrilling theme for me because well you know I just love them. Backstage at Naeem Khan FW14 (actually one of the favorite designers of First Lady Michelle Obama) I had a chance to take a few shots and interview James Boehmer NARS Director of Global Artistry who told me all about the makeup for this show:

' ... The inspiration for Naeem Khan FW14 makeup were the 20's, but we decided not to go so literal with the theme ... '

Red lips are the focus point for this look, along with a perfect and natural skin, with a touch of gold shadow on the eyelids, in fact this look is very similar to what I do every day, is the kinda makeup I like to recreate at home, I find it effortless chic. Given my severe interest in making my lipstick look -always- perfect I asked Boehmer his tips and tricks:

' ... to achieve a perfect red lip it’s important to apply the lipstick in the center, don’t apply it all the way to the edge of your lip, and then fill in with lip liner to make it last longer... if you use a lip liner in a deeper shade than your lipstick it helps you keep the color on and makes it look more finish, but it is also important to apply several layers... for this look we used three tones to achieve the color you wanted -we have five layers in this lip- then we apply a little shine on the cupid's bow to give it a twenties feeling...'

Boehmer also told me that red lips are timeless and that they look good on everyone, I agree with him, but I must add that it’s important to find the perfect shade of red because some skin tones need ‘colder’ reds (with deep blue pigments ) and warm skin tones must use red lipsticks with orange pigments, but you know what they say... a red lipstick always works!

With love,

Gina

Gina
